The existing building is a 19th century Italianate farmhouse with gardens, located within an urban nature preserve.  A series of hipped-roof additions to the old house create a varied sequence of outdoor rooms and frame distant views of the landscape. Indoor spaces accommodate a broad range of functions, from large social entertaining spaces to an intimate sound isolated recording studio overlooking the nearby creek.

The music studio is an addition to an existing 19th century Italianate farmhouse with gardens, located within an urban nature preserve.  A series of additions to the old house create a varied sequence of outdoor rooms that define a sequence leading to the studio.  The studio itself is a high-tech, soundproof room with good light, triple glazing, and an ultra-quiet mechanical system specially designed for Mr. McFerrin’s recording sessions.
